Where Rattan Comes From

In rainforests of South East Asia where rattan grows, its economic and environmental credentials are second to none, many trees are logged prematurely therefore loggers now forgo timber logging (of trees) in favour of harvesting rattan which compared to most tropical wood is much faster growing up to (6 metres a year). In addition rattan is much easier to harvest, requiring simpler tools and transportation methods.

Natural rattan helps the local ecosystem and natural habitat (listed below are a few reasons).

1). Rattan protects trees by binding themselves around them (like a vine)

2). Rattan is harvested by hand and not by heavy duty machinery.

3). Rattan is cooked in a steamer rather than subjected to intense industrious methods.

Looking after your Conservatory Furniture

Here are a few recommendations to maintain the look and quality of your conservatory furniture.

1). Rattan frames can be cleaned by simply dusting. A brush attachment on a vacuum cleaner will remove dust from woven areas.

2). Cushions should be plumped and turned regularly.

3). All cushion covers are removable for cleaning. These are either suitable for dry cleaning or machine washable at 40 degrees. Ask your retailer for details.

4). When conservatory furniture is placed on wooden and laminate floors, felt pads should be placed under the legs to avoid any possible scratching of the floor.

5). The use of blinds in conservatories is recommended to protect the conservatory furniture from effects of prolonged direct sunlight.

6). A damp cloth should be used to clean wooden tables.

7). Avoid placing hot objects directly on to wooden table tops.

8). Cane is a natural product which is grown in the rain forests of South East Asia. Shade variations and finish may differ for each item. These characteristics are a unique feature of cane and rattan conservatory furniture, which enhances the overall appearance of these products.
